Villar
del Rey slate is a sedimentary rock formed over 450 million years ago,
belonging to the middle Devonic era. The principle components of the
slate are quartz, sericite, chlorite and graphite, giving a high level
of black graphite tone.
Yates
& Company
are the sole importers and distributors in Great Britain for the Villar
del Rey slate, with sales exceeding 6 million slates in 1999. The Quarry
has a long history dating back to Roman times and was the first in Spain
to receive the ISO9002 Quality Assurance Certification. The Quarry also
holds the French Agrement Laboratory Test Certificate, recognised throughout
Europe as the standard. Both these certificates are regarded by architects
and other authorities concerned with roofing slate specifications as
adequate proof of the consistency of quality of the product. The Quarry
itself provides a 75 year guarantee against structural failure and delamination.

Being
one of the first Spanish slates introduced into the UK, Villar del Rey
has now established itself as a premier slate of the highest standard,
with a proven record for quality, durability and reliability for neaarly
30 years, and is specified throughout the UK by architects, developers
and builders.
The
Quarry has recently completed construction of a new production plant,
equipped with state-of-the-art machinery for working with natural slate
rock, which is expected to increase their production of roofing slate
by 100% over a short period. With the help of the improved quality inspection
system which they have now installed and which is without parallel in
any other slate quarry in the world, the Quarry management are confident
that their future output will reach the peak of quality.
